Liga MB Round 18 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Metapan wins another game

Liga MB top team - Metapan (13-1) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Independiente (7-7) 79-59. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Independiente. It was a good game for who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) contributed with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Metapan's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Noryen Lasley (201, college: Ave Maria) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds for Independiente. Metapan have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. Independiente at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Metapan are looking forward to face Cojute (#4) in Cojutepeque in the next round. Independiente will play at home against Ahuachapan and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Bottom-ranked Brujos is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 14th consecutive match to ninth ranked Ahuachapan (5-9) 84-77. American forward Kordell Brown (203, college: Columbus St.) had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and EJ Blackwell chipped in 13 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Jerry Surrency III (183-2002, college: PS Scranton) with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Ahuachapan maintains ninth position with 5-9 record. Brujos at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Ahuachapan will play against higher ranked Independiente (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brujos will play against Cojute (#4) and hope to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 18 Santa Ana was beaten by A.Lobos on the road 69-64.

No shocking result in a game when third ranked A.Lobos (11-3) beat at home 6th ranked Santa Ana (7-8) 69-64. A.Lobos outrebounded Santa Ana 65-45 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Ana was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Four A.Lobos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Puerto Rican forward Xavier Zambrana (193-1991) with 8 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists and Lee Vasquez scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. A.Lobos maintains third position with 11-3 record having just two points less than leader Metapan. Santa Ana at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost.
